Irving ISD’s campuses include three early childhood schools (PreK), 20 elementary schools (grades K-5), eight middle schools (grades 6-8), five high schools (grades 9-12), a newcomer academy and an outdoor learning center. The school district is also home to a planetarium, one of only 14 in the state.
Lady Bird Johnson Middle School, the newest school in Irving ISD, is the largest net-zero energy-consumption middle school in the United States. The school is powered by solar panels, wind turbines and produces as much energy as it uses while serving more than 1,000 students.
In Irving ISD, students can choose from many career and technical programs, competitive fine arts and athletic activities, a variety of electives, and many dual credit and advanced courses. A leader in career and technical education (CTE), Irving ISD offers comprehensive and competitive Signature Studies options, career-specific programs designed to prepare students for a lifetime of success through hands-on, real-world, workforce-relevant learning. Through our course offerings, particularly in the 16 specific career clusters available, students receive a wide variety of opportunities to learn and grow in their areas of interest.
Irving ISD is a nationally-recognized leader in college and career readiness and earned the honor of being the 2015 National Advanced Placement School District of the Year. In addition, Irving ISD is on the list of top digital school districts in the country and is home to a National Merit Scholar, a Dell Scholar, a Gates Millennial Scholar, many National Merit Finalists, Commended Students and Quest Bridge Scholars.
For students looking for college-level opportunities while in high school, Irving ISD offers an early-college start program at two of the district’s high schools as well as 43 dual credit courses and 36 Advanced Placement classes across the district.
